El Gobernador, Chilean pisco made by John Towers Master Distillers - the distilled spirits division of Familia Torres - was chosen as one of the best spirits of 2025 by the International Wine & Spirits Competition (IWSC).

Each year, this prestigious international competition selects 21 references that represent excellence in their respective categories to make up the list. Top 21 World Spirits of 2025, recently published.

Crowned as the best grape distillate of 2025, El Gobernador achieved an extraordinary score of 98 points in the contest, receiving the coveted medal “Spirit Gold Outstanding, reserved only for 3% of the submitted samples.

The Best of the Year award is given after a rigorous second tasting of the top-scoring samples-all with 95 points or more-which are re-evaluated by the judging committee.

Reflecting excellence

The jury praised El Gobernador for its elegance, balance and aromatic intensity and described it as follows: “Captivating aromas of fresh muscat intertwined with a delicate smoky touch. On the palate, vibrant lychee and pronounced floral notes of peach and jasmine, complemented by a herbal nuance. This perfectly balanced experience culminates in a long, memorable finish.”

The selection of the year's best spirits, described as “a definitive guide to excellence, showcasing an extraordinary diversity of craftsmanship and innovation”, was published alongside the IWSC's 2025 World's 50 Best Spirits Producers ranking.

Juan Torres Master Distillers is ranked 24th, a recognition that reflects sustained excellence, as only brands that maintain consistently high quality are considered for this distinction.

According to Club Oenologique, the British magazine linked to the International Wine & Spirit Competition, “what really distinguishes Torres Brandy and its spirits is the harmonious balance between tradition and innovation. They are not content with historical achievements, but look to the future with enthusiasm, continually asking themselves what the next chapter will be”.”

Founded in 1969 by Anton Massel, the IWSC combines blind tasting with scientific analysis, guaranteeing maximum rigour in the evaluation of products.

This prestigious competition receives thousands of samples from all over the world, evaluated by experts such as Masters of Wine, Master Sommeliers and other wine professionals.

About John Torres Master Distillers

Juan Torres Casals, the second generation of the family, began making smooth, aromatic, oak-aged aged brandies from select white wines from the Penedès (Barcelona). Today, with more than ninety years of experience, Juan Torres Master Distillers continues to perfect the art of distilling, seeking excellence in each product.

The company produces 15 different spirits-including brandy, pisco, orange liqueur, vermouth and whisky-for the cocktail industry, under the brands Torres Brandy, El Gobernador, Magdala, Casals and Liathmor. For the sixth consecutive year, Torres Brandy has been recognised as the best-selling brandy in the world's best bars, according to Drinks International's Brands Report 2025.

About Pisco el Gobernador

In 1928 in Penedès Spain, Juan Torres Casals began distilling his wines to make brandy. 84 years later, this experience led Miguel Torres Maczassek to make the winery's first Pisco in Chile.

Its image features a bottle made especially for this pisco, with a Bartop cork closure and a lime green label that presents the story of the Governor of Ovalle, Felipe Margutt Donaire, who distinguished himself in the Battle of Maipú in 1818 where Chile's Independence was finally sealed.
